Four questions to ask yourself before deciding if you will hike in Tevas.
Hiking Sandals
My hiking shoes: Teva Women’s Original Universal Metallic Sandal
The type of trail you will be hiking is important.
Sandals that are secure to your foot (ankle straps) work well on level and unlevel ground, dirt trails, small rock trails that are level, and jumping from boulder to boulder.
They don’t do as well on small rocks going uphill and downhill.
The primary reason to hike in Tevas is to allow the feet to dry quickly. If you hike along or in a river bed, if you are hiking a trail with multiple water crossings, or if there will be rain and/or puddles, Tevas are a great option.
If you have ankle issues, a hike in Tevas may not work well for you. Teva sandals do not offer ankle support.
Shorter distances are better when you hike in Tevas. Distances greater than a mile increase your risk of developing blisters.
A hike in Tevas is perfect on a summer day. You can quickly throw on your Tevas to take off on a short hike to play and swim in water while your feet stay cool and dry quickly. The grip is good enough to handle light climbing and light to moderate short hikes.
A hike in Tevas is not ideal for more challenging trails and cool weather.
They are comfortable, but not a 3-mile hike up a rock hill comfortable.
Hiking in sandals for too long can lead to blisters and leave you exposed to injury (rolled ankle, toe injury from kicking a rock, etc.).
Hiking in Tevas is good on certain trails and in certain conditions.
If you are going for a 1-mile hike alongside a river in the summer, a hike in Tevas is perfect. If you are going on a 3-mile hike in early spring on a gravel incline, a hike in Tevas is not advised.
Use the pros and cons list above to decide if you can hike in Tevas on your next hiking adventure!

I have a pair of Tevas but never hiked in them. I’ve always thought gravel might get under my feet. I might give it a go as a result of your post. Thanks for sharing!
Such a lovely read. I really like your honest review of the Teva Sandals. Thanks for sharing.
Very helpful article for those who want to try and go hiking in Tevas . They wouldn’t be my first choice though.
This is super cool! I didn’t even know what Tevas as was!
This is such great information! I’ve wanted to try these sandals for a while now but wasn’t sure about them. You’ve convinced me! Thank you 🙂
They work perfectly in certain circumstances!
Love the idea of hiking in sandals because my ultimate goal is usually to put my feet in a river! Now to figure out how to go further without getting blisters 🤔
That’s the next issue to tackle….
I wore these sandals a lot in the 90s, I should buy another pair…
